Knee wedge, AKA suicide block is the fastest one single step to get firmed up quickly. See link in this post for some outfitting tips. Knee wedges of course add some inherent danger by impeding an exit so you have to decide what works for you.

2. Do you wear a lifevest on the water? recommendations on a better lifevest.

Modify your existing jacket (or better yet an older retired jacket) to taste. Again you will have to find your own balance of performance vs. the inherent danger of less flotation.
You want a modified jacket to still do two things. 1 - keep you at the surface if you were to be out of your boat and unconscious, and 2- pass as a legit jacket at a distance to lawmen and to newbies that will be impressed by your wicked boating prowess.

3. How do I start learning how to cartwheel? I could do some very low angle cartwheels, and could get one end going from a vertical bow stall the stern. However I wasn't in control and couldn't figure out how to get a second end.

Think of your moves kind of like a billards player. Its not the shot you are taking as much as it is setting up the next shot you are taking after that. So, in squirting think of the momentum of your first move as a set up to make your next move.
Low angle cartwheels are fine. Start will low angle wheels and work your angle higher with each successive wheel. On a bow stall it will be very difficult to transition to a wheel on the opposing tip because there is no momentum moving that direction. You will find it amazingly easy though to dead vertical cartwheel if your boat is already cartwheeling in that direction.
If you are stuck in a dead vertical position with no apparent smooth transition to your next move you can in a bow stall reach forward and across like a cross draw. In a stern position reach behind you.
